New Delhi: The concept of a renowned hitman changing the ways of his old life and leaving everything behind for love sounds surreal, doesn’t it? But it is indeed the plot of the upcoming starring anime, Sakamoto Days.
Origin of the series
Sakamoto Days is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since November 2020, with its chapters collected in 19 volumes as of November 2024.
Why is Sakamoto Days so popular among anime fans?
The anime offers an interesting concept, a hitman renowned and feared by many, on top of the underworld chain, leaving all his glory and past behind after getting encaptured in the emotion of love. But, it is not as easy as it may be to leave behind a past of violence and bloodshed and move on without the repercussions of it chasing behind you. The anime series being adapted after its manga is set to release in the chilling winter of 2025 in January.

Plot
The plotline follows the life of Tarou Sakamoto, a feared hitman of his time, on top of his glory in the underworld, the greatest hitman of all, meeting and falling in love with a woman.
The depth of his feelings for her is so deep that he wills himself to leave the life of his glorious past behind for her. Sakamoto quits being a hitman and starts working as a convenience store clerk, he has no repercussions over leaving his past behind and is seemingly content with the life he now leads.
However, leaving behind his dark past isn’t as easy as it seems and proves to be more difficult than Sakamoto initially thought it to be. Numerous of his former rivals partners and enemies do not believe that Sakomoto has just moved on from his life and left behind the business. They show up in hopes of taking him out and putting an end to him.
But, Sakamoto, who solemnly swore to not kill is forced to find creative and conventional methods just to steer his enemies away and protect his family, his store, and the small town he lives in. This wouldn’t be so hard for Sakamoto if he hadn’t solemnly sworn to never kill anyone again, because it would mean going against his values of leaving the life of an assassin behind.
