An arrest warrant has been issued for former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa. While operating a business, he has been charged with failing to pay employees’ Provident Fund (PF) contributions.
What Is the Problem?
Uthappa served as a director of Centaurus Lifestyle Brands. His employer withheld PF funds from workers’ paychecks but failed to credit them to their PF accounts. A total of ₹23.36 lakh is owed.
Legal Actions Taken
On December 4, 2024, Shadakshiri Gopala Reddy, the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, sent a letter instructing the Pulakeshi Nagar Police to detain Uthappa. The letter made clear that the office cannot settle the impacted workers’ PF accounts since they have not been paid.
Current Status
When police went to Uthappa’s last known home in Bengaluru, they discovered that he had moved out. According to reports, Uthappa and his family have been residing in Dubai for more than a year.
